  • 1 packet vanilla sugar
  • 50 g poppy seeds

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil.
  2. Grind the poppy seeds with 1 tbsp sugar until fine.
  3. In a bowl, beat curd cheese with 2-3 tbsp sugar, 1 tbsp melted butter, and lemon zest until smooth.
  4. Add the egg and mix well. Stir in the flour until combined into a soft dough.
  5. Wash and hull the strawberries, then pat dry with a kitchen towel. Sprinkle them with vanilla sugar.
  6. Take a tablespoon of dough and form a ball. Flatten it into a disc in your palm, place one strawberry in the center, then fold and seal the dough around the berry, rolling it gently into a smooth ball.
  7. Carefully drop the dumplings into simmering water (not boiling). Cook for about 5 minutes or until they float to the surface.
  8. Meanwhile, heat the remaining butter in a skillet.
  9. Using a slotted spoon, remove dumplings from water, drain well, and pan-fry in butter for 2 minutes, turning to brown all sides.
  10. Roll the fried dumplings in the ground poppy seeds.
