How to Care for Crystal Glasses: Tips & Tricks for Long-Lasting Shine

What Are Crystal Glasses?

Crystal glass is richer in minerals (up to 30%), making it exceptionally bright, resonant, and surprisingly durable even when crafted thin.

Why Proper Care Matters

Crystal glasses often carry higher price tags and heirloom potential. Proper cleaning preserves their clarity, prevents scratches or etching, and keeps them pristine for years.

Manual Washing

  • Line the sink with a soft towel
  • Use warm—not hot—water and a mild detergent
  • Wash with a soft sponge or brush, then rinse with clean (ideally distilled) water
  • Dry immediately with a lint-free microfiber or linen towel

Dishwasher Use

  • Choose a reputable crystal brand (e.g., Schott Zwiesel Tritan)
  • Arrange glasses spaced apart to avoid contact
  • Select a “glass” or “delicate” cycle between 50–65 °C
  • Open the door right after rinsing to release steam

Drying & Storage Tips

  1. Hold by the stem to avoid fingerprints
  2. Never breath on them to dry—avoids water spots
  3. Use lint-free towels (microfiber or pure linen)
  4. Avoid fabric softener on towels to prevent residue
  5. Store upright on their base to protect rims
