Ingredients

Roasted Potatoes & Peppers:

  • 1 kg new potatoes, peeled and sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper (or kapia pepper), diced
  • ¼ bunch fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, sliced
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 150 ml chicken broth (or water)
  • 100 ml Greek-style tomato sauce
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Meat Patties:

  • 300 g ground beef
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon chili powder
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon sweet paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried crushed mint
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium onion (approx. 50 g), finely chopped
  • 1 slice white bread (approx. 50 g)
  • Milk, for soaking bread
  • 1 tomato, sliced (for topping)

Instructions

1. Prepare the Meat Patties

  • Soak the bread slice in milk, then lightly squeeze out excess milk without drying it completely.
  • Sauté finely chopped onion in olive oil until very soft.
  • Combine ground beef, sautéed onion, soaked bread, and all spices in a bowl. Mix thoroughly.
  • Form a small test patty and fry it in the pan used for the onion to check seasoning, especially salt. Adjust seasoning if needed.
  • Divide mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a flattened patty (like a hamburger). Refrigerate until ready to use. Patties can be formed hours in advance.

2. Prepare the Vegetables

  • Peel and slice potatoes into rounds. Dice the red pepper.
  • Chop parsley and onion finely. Slice garlic cloves.
  • Combine all vegetables in a large bowl, season with salt and pepper.
  • Drizzle with olive oil and tomato sauce; mix well to coat evenly.

3. Bake Potatoes and Peppers

  • Spread the vegetable mixture evenly in a large ovenproof dish.
  • Pour chicken broth slowly around the edges, avoiding washing off seasoning.
  • Bake at 200°C (390°F) for 20 minutes.

  • Place a tomato slice on each patty.
